THE ROARING TWENTIES ARE BACK WITH THE OPENING OF PROHIBITION

A new restaurant and speakeasy in Midtown capturing the true essence of the era

MIAMI, FL – May 22, 2014 – Exquisite dark wood floors, rich orange leather banquettes, exposed brick and a sign announcing that the “good old days are back” are just a few of the details that will catch your eye as you enter the world of Prohibition. The new restaurant and speakeasy has just opened its doors in Midtown Miami and harkens back to the 1920s and 1930s, an era known for its unadulterated style, appeal, prosperity and wild youth.

A time period so often revered yet so seldom recreated, Prohibition embodies the look and feel of this particularly provocative age of indulgence, introducing an entirely fresh and vibrant new concept to Miami. Residing in the heart of one of Miami’s most sought-after neighborhoods, Midtown’s world of art, music, commerce and nightlife provide the perfect location for this new gem.

The restaurant’s menu created by owner and restaurateur Shawn Shanazi touches upon a fusion of cuisines, though certainly influenced by American “comfort food” taste notes. The menu boasts an exciting array of both small and large plates that are universally appealing where seafood has a starring role. Menu favorites include Truffle Pasta (Sachetti stuffed with ricotta and truffle in a parmesan fondue); Hamachi Crudo (Jalapeno, sea salt and light ponzu); Char- Grilled Octopus (with sautéed corn, celery, cherry tomatoes, and baby fondant potatoes in our signature caper and olive relish); Wagyu Skirt Steak (12oz Skirt Steak served with scallion green rice and Chimichurri sauce); Seared Scallops (served with truffle potato sauce, crispy corn, bacon and spinach) and among many others. The cocktail menu is a throwback to the classics, featuring quintessential libations including the ‘sidecar,’ ‘old fashioned’ and ‘mojito.’

“We wanted to create a place that would capture and evoke a vibe yet to be experienced in the Miami dining-out scene, from the food to the cocktails to the ambiance,” said Shawn Shanazi, owner of Prohibition. “More than be defined by its cuisine, location or décor, we want our patrons to feel transported to the magical era of the twenties and thirties that was all about celebrating nightlife in the most stylish manner imaginable.”

The second floor boasts a cozy speakeasy (lounge) “THE EIGHTEENTH," named after the Eighteenth Amendment which effectively established the prohibition of alcoholic beverages in the United States by declaring the production, transport and sale of alcohol illegal.  The space allows for a multitude of events, celebrations, music and late night cocktails. THE EIGHTEENTH stays open until 2:00 a.m. providing patrons with an exclusive ambience for after dinner drinks and dancing.
